Hi, I’m Mercedes! Originally from Iowa, I am a 26 year old professional portrait photographer and visual artist. I graduated with my Associates Applied Arts degree in Photography from the Hawkeye Community College Professional Photography Program where I specialized in portrait photography and a BA in Graphic Technologies from the University of Northern Iowa. My love for photography first began as a designer. I designed albums and books for a professional photography lab for two years right out of college. As I created albums, mostly of weddings, my ambition to create images like the ones I saw, grew too. Upon my discovered love for the art of photography, I decided to go back to school to develop my skills. I most certainly wanted this to be a career, so I decided to get professional education.
I have been a professional photographer for two years. I have been an artist for 26. With a background in design, art, photography and printmaking, I find so many opportunities to capture the beauty of the world and people when I hold a camera in my hands. I think photography is the best, most vital form of documentation and art that we humans possess. It is a great honor and responsibility to capture people and for me, it’s the most rewarding job in the world. At least my world.
I am currently pursuing my masters of photography through The Professional Photographers of America where I use print competition, conventions and classes to keep my skills to the utmost quality for my clients. I’m passionate about people. I’m passionate about art. Photography is my medium of choice when it comes to expressing those passions. Your vision will come first and I hope my artist expression and professional technical skills creates a work of art that you, your family and friends can enjoy for years to come.
